They are shuttled in 15-passenger vans to and from the grocery, and to other activities ranging from grooming horses at a riding stable to workouts or basketball at Twin Lakes Recreation Center. They get job skills training, music therapy based on dissecting song lyrics, artistic opportunities and help with cooking, budgeting and other life skills. They volunteer for charitable organizations. Residents stay busy with 12-step meetings and individual therapy sessions. On Sundays, they choose a church service to attend or spend time at a Buddhist center or meditating. Staff members check on patients every 15 minutes when they aren’t involved in an organized activity.
